PICK A CAUSE, HELP A COMMUNITY

Ready to get your hands into helping others this summer? We encourage all kids to pick a cause and find out what summer break is really about!

We’ve picked a few opportunities you can look into based on your interests. These are just a few ideas of many – a starting point. If you’re volunteering this year or if you end up working with any of the organizations below, let us know. We’d love to hear about your summer volunteerism!

Urban:

Art is beautiful, but graffiti is usually illegal, and it takes away from the beauty of the city. Volunteer for the City of Dallas’ Wipe Out Graffiti program and work with other kids to make the city clean and shiny!

Environment:

Become part of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative™ and become active in conservation projects and environmental cleanup. You’ll be able to use your entrepreneurial skills to develop projects with your friends and possibly win a scholarship!

Animals:

Kids between the ages of 11 and 18 can volunteer to be zookeepers, conservation guides, aquarium guides and junior camp counselors. If you’ve ever thought of a career involving animals, this is a great way to see if you love working with animals. Check out all the great opportunities here!

Kids:

Kids who want to help other kids who are at-risk or in need can volunteer with Kids Helping Kids, a volunteer organization run by high school students. Whether you want to help raise money for kids with cancer, mentor homeless children or volunteer to serve at camps for underprivileged children, this is the organization for you! See for yourself!

Elderly:

Hop aboard the Locomotion Party Bus and serve meals to elderly people in need. You’ll get a tour of the kitchen, and you’ll get to learn more about Meals on Wheels. If you have a heart for older adults, this is a perfect choice for you!

Homeless:

The North Texas Food Bank has room for volunteers to do all kinds of things. Age requirements vary, so check and see what you are qualified to do. You can work at the distribution center, help host special events, work in the garden, sort and pack food for school pantries and more.

Health:

Kids 16 or over can volunteer at Children’s Medical Center. Volunteers at the hospital can provide patient and family hospitality or do administrative work. Take a look at their site for more information.

We hope you find the perfect place for your volunteer work. We know when you do, you’ll have the best summer ever!
